Rykers’ Ridge Elementary promotes education for 260 students in grades K-5. There are 12+ teachers.
Rykers’ Ridge covers all of Milton Township and parts of Madison, Shelby and Monroe Townships. This makes the district the largest of all the Madison elementary school districts.
Rykers’ Ridge School provides a safe learning environment for its students and staff. We serve a large district and our families come from a government housing project as well as a rural community. All of our students are bused to and from school with the exception of a few who ride in cars with their parents. None of our students walk to school as there are no sidewalks in our area and narrow country roads.
We have a full day kindergarten program, two of each grade level first through fifth and a full time principal and secretary. We have 40 minute special classes of p.e., library, media, art, and music. We have a part time At-Risk counselor, part time nurse, traveling speech clinician, Resource room teacher, and a part time physical therapist.
We are fortunate to have the Big Brother / Big Sister Program in our school, Senior Volunteers, after school care, in addition to transportation to The Boys and Girls Club and Girls Incorporated. The Rykers’ Ridge Baptist Church across the road provides us with additional parking spaces and extra school supplies as needed. We are also close to the Ryker’s Ridge Fire Station and they provide us with a fire safety program in the fall.
Among the other elementary schools in our district, Rykers’ Ridge encompasses 60 square miles, causing prolonged transportation time for many of our students. Rykers’ Ridge covers all of Milton Township and parts of Madison, Shelby and Monroe Townships. This makes our district the largest of all the Madison elementary school districts. Our school site is located in the southwest part of our district.
