The school will be back in face-to-face instruction this week. I know so many of us are ready to be back with students in the building. Not only is the education taking place a great thing, but for the sake of social and emotional needs of our staff and students who need to be together is extremely important.
Juniors, you will be finishing ISTEP testing this week as the window has not been extended, and that closes this Friday. Please read your email from Mrs. Janelle Smith, school counselor, about testing.
PROM date will be May 15th. Prom will be right after our AP exams are final, except those that were supposed to happen on May 13th have been moved to May 17th. Seniors and Juniors and their guests will be able to attend. We are working on our safety plan and guidelines to make this happen.
Vaping and drug detectors are now up and running in all bathrooms. If you see anyone doing that crap while you are in there, please tell an adult. If the detector goes off, it sends an alert to our SRO, counselors, and administrators. We will then come to the bathrooms, and anyone in there could be searched. We are going to do everything we can to get this off our campus. Thank you to the SRO's for writing the grant to get the money to purchase these and our school board for approving the purchase.
Parents/Guardians, I want to thank you for all of your efforts during this time. We are very fortunate for our ability to be virtual when necessary. Everyone has their own opinion about virtual and snow days. Trust me, I understand, but I am thankful we can do it because I much rather stay on schedule with our calendar instead of having the students and staff going to school in June to make up all of these days. It allows us to keep our graduation date where it's at. It provides instruction to be happening before our AP exams in May. It provides for families not to have to cancel family vacations or camps that students go to. There are many advantages to staying on schedule instead of extending the school year. Again, our staff knows to show grace and have been showing it during this time for families that have internet or other various issues. I have had very minimal emails or calls about matters during this time and feel very fortunate.
I can't say enough about all of our staff and teachers in this corporation and all that they do. Feel free to send a teacher or staff member a note this week and let them know how much you appreciate them. They will love to hear from you.
Take care!
Michael
